The Atlas Harran Design Collection translates Mesopotamian knowledge and aesthetics to contemporary design. Curated by Bilgen Coşkun and Dilek Öztürk, founders of in-between.online, the collection is handmade by women in Harran — including local and Syrian refugee women — through ateliers at ADEM within the Governorship of Harran.
Journalists and media professionals can access high-resolution images, designer biographies, and project background materials via the press pack.
Open Press PackThe Atlas Harran Design Collection draws deeply from the rich visual language of Mesopotamia, where celestial observation, astrolatry, and the rhythms of sun, moon, and stars once guided daily life in the ancient plains of Harran. Each piece in the collection—from serving platters and coffee series to textiles and wall hangings—carries layered references to this cosmology. The designs translate symbols of wisdom, prosperity, and fortune into contemporary forms, echoing the multi-layered architectural and spiritual structures built by the civilizations that settled these lands over millennia. It is a quiet yet powerful act of cultural translation, bringing ancient knowledge forward into modern living spaces.
Crafted in collaboration with local artisans and women in Harran, the collection embodies a sustainable design economy rooted in community and craft. The earthy palette of terracotta, olive, sand, and deep espresso tones reflects the landscape of the Harran plains, while the generous, airy editorial aesthetic allows each piece to breathe. Traditional motifs—from the harmala separator to astral symbols referencing Shamas, Ishtar, and Sin—are reimagined with contemporary minimalism. The result is tableware, textiles, and objects that honor ancestral making practices while speaking fluently to today’s design sensibilities, bridging past and present through material culture.
Beyond aesthetics, the Atlas Harran collection carries a deeper narrative of cultural preservation and social impact. By working through local ateliers and supporting women’s craftsmanship—including Syrian refugee women—the project weaves together stories of resilience, continuity, and shared heritage. The designs reference the spiritual cleansing rituals, pagan roots, and astral beliefs of the Harranians, translating these intangible traditions into tangible, everyday objects. Each cup, board, or tote bag becomes a vessel for memory, inviting users to connect with the wisdom of ancient Mesopotamia while supporting a contemporary ecosystem of ethical production and cross-cultural dialogue.
